The lighting design for the restaurant brings the traveler into the forefront and focuses around the experience of dining in-between flights by creating a calming and inviting atmosphere.
The Mesoghaia restaurant, part of the Sofitel hotel, located in the Athens International Airport offers a premium dining experience to travelers. The Lighting’s design challenge was to create a space that can accommodate different uses during the day to serve a large number of guests and at the same time promote a feeling of privacy and upscale dining. Focused lighting with special optics reduces glare and full spectrum warm LED sources create an environment that resembles more a home dining table than an airport. Most of the lighting fixtures are custom made, to follow the lines of the ceiling and a number of them are specially painted in a rose-gold finish to blend in with the rest of the architectural details.
